First part of subject line.
There are different items and platforms you can share whatever nowadays.
Nanoblogging for Twitter, Pownce, Jaiku etc.
Status reports on Twitter, Facebook etc.
Media sharing, dedicated on Flickr, YouTube, general on Tumblr etc.
"Linkblogging", or Social bookmarking through Del.icio.us, Magnolia, Blinklist, Facebook etc.
Blogging in general on Typepad, Wordpress etc.
Each of these comes with different social coding, and all can be streamed through an aggregated feed - FriendFeed, Lifestream on 30boxes.com etc. And you have it in your browser client on Flock.com.
Nowadays, also on client side outside your browser, such as Twhirl and Alert Thingy.
Now, more than ever, you need to be aware of the social code and the attention span. Thus, together, to keep and develop your social graph to leverage your intentions and make a change, lasting. What attention do you consume?
140 characters maximum for the status updates and Twitter?
The same for description of media and comments on social bookmarking?
Blogging up to 500 words?
And when aggregated enough regards content, theme, insight and thread/plot, and documented enough by then, push a Wiki for editing a book, and then take it to Blurb for self-published book?
That much for the opening questions related to the first part of the subject line.

Now to the second part of the subject line.
The one's you care to follow, and the one's you appreciate the sharing, is what matters, and what defines your character, your aspirations, your intentions.
And, I believe, if you follow beyond 150 people, it goes astray.
But that's me.
You?
I (and others) have experienced an increasing of followers on my Twitter stream/account that does nothing else than get my nano-attention once: Seeing that their updates only contain a product/service they want to transact, and me to act. I build relations, not transactions, on Twitter. Sharing most important stuff. How to deal with the least important stuff coming from anonymous strangers who wants you to buy stuff you don't want or need? Yeah, I know I can block them immediately, and I can also set a lock on my account, but I do not want to do that, in the age of transparency. How can we even stop their action? Twitter becomes commonplace more and more, and turns e. g. into a default IM system for those who do not want to be having a regular IM client, with the Twhirl interface.
So.
In other words: How to deal with Twammers? (twitter plus spam)
[note: This post tagged #43tools, meaning it is relevant to one of three main professional strands of interaction represented of my three main pro-blogging action, see my Vox profile and statement for guidance - and this is also the first post tagged #rotd - 'reflection of the day', in my attempt to build up a default GTD next/action every day: daily blogging :) ]

Interesting. First "texting" is associated to bridge text and music (where I actually have my main media of expression in both professional and private routes). Then it moves in main meaning over time to the SMSed life.
Etymonline Dot Com gives
- text

- 1369, "wording of anything written," from O.Fr. texte, O.N.Fr. tixte (12c.), from M.L. textus "the Scriptures, text, treatise," in L.L. "written account, content, characters used in a document," from L. textus "style or texture of a work," lit. "thing woven," from pp. stem of texere "to weave," from PIE base *tek- "make" (see texture).

Text-book is from 1779."An ancient metaphor: thought is a thread, and the raconteur is a spinner of yarns -- but the true storyteller, the poet, is a weaver. The scribes made this old and audible abstraction into a new and visible fact. After long practice, their work took on such an even, flexible texture that they called the written page a textus, which means cloth." [Robert Bringhurst, "The Elements of Typographic Style"]
"thinking an Elevator Pitch should be maximum 140 chars to fit in a tweet, a Facebook linkshare auto-text and Google Grasped Page Descriptor"
Challenge: How to describe a Club Concept in less than 140 chars?
